OMMUNICATING CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES TO PUBLIC: THE STUDY OF WEBSITE PUBLICATION OF INDONESIAN COMPANIES

Abstract

Purpose:The paper aims to evaluate the implementation of  stakeholder theory including the elements of environment,  community, employee, supplier and consumers in social activities of companies. The evaluation of corporate social responsibilties can be traced from the reporting activities on companies’website. Methodology:A content analysis of companies that listed in LQ45 and some other companies that publish their corporate social activites on website. There are fifteen industries and 101 companies. The  industries are Mining & Energy,Telecommunication & Service, Food & Beverage, Construction, Automotive, Banking, Insurance, Pharmaceutical, Non-Cyclical Consumer Goods, Transportation,  Broadcasting, Materials, Industrials, Natural Gas, Real Estate. Findings: The percentage of corporate social responsibility activity of mining and energy industry on environment was 16,90%. It was the highest percentage of corporate social responsibility on environment. The magnitude and propotion of corporate social responsibilities that  reported on the website is relatively unequal. The highest proportion lies in environment, community, and consumer. The least proportion lies in supplier. Originality/Value: The literature on social  responsibility drives the growth of internet tools to promote social business activities. The importance lies in the spreading information of business activities in order the public recognizes what the  companies are doing and have accomplished.The website can describe the communication as the e-reputation. The corporate website is used to attain the interest of stakeholders. It is the tool of marketing communication to convey corporate social responsibility message and enhance brand equity. The information disclosure provides public with the activities regarding stakeholder perspectives including  environment, society, supplier, consumers.

Introduction

According to American Marketing Association (2004), marketing has been defined as an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationship in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholder. However this concept has been enlarged into the societal marketing concept. It is admitted that traditionally,  marketers have focused on positioning products and have neglected
the side effects of marketing activities. Business organization is  expected to be socially responsible or good corporate citizens  (Lantos, 2001). The societal marketing concept holds that the  organization’s task is to determine the needs, wants, and interests of target markets and to deliver the desired satisfactions more  effectively and efficiently than competitors in a way that preserves or enhances the consumer’s and society’s long-term well-being.  Sustainability becomes the corporate priority in the long run (Kotler & Keller, 2009).

Abstrak

Studi ini merupakan studi eksploratif yang bertujuan untuk  mengetahui persepsi individu terhadap pesan pemasar yang  ditayangkan melalui internet yang berupa pop-ups, spam atau  cookies. Informasi yang diberikan kepada individu pengguna internet memberikan pengetahuan baru namun di satu sisi informasi datang pada setiap individu mengakses internet dengan cara datang beruntun, tiba-tiba dan tidak bisa menghindari. Pada titik ekstrim, informasi tersebut bisa membuat konsumen untuk tidak mampu memahami informasi dengan baik, dan bisa mengganggu privasi konsumen karena konsumen tidak menghendaki adanya informasi tersebut. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan focus group discussion.

Abstrak

Pendahuluan

Sebuah hal yang mulia bagi sebuah universitas kecil untuk  mewujudkan visi dan misi luhur. Visi dan misi yang luhur tidak hanya berhenti dalam bentuk tulisan dalam poster, agenda, atau situs perusahaan. Namun, yang terpenting adalah bagaimana realisasi visi dan misi tersebut dalam setiap kegiatan akademik. Universitas  Paramadina memiliki visi dan misi untuk mampu menjadi garda depan dalam memenuhi tuntutan perkembangan zaman yang terus berubah. Wujud nyata adalah menciptakan suatu model pendidikan dengan menerapkan nilai-nilai Keparamadinaan melalui penerapan nilai kepemimpinan, etika, dan kewirausahaan. Pemahaman dan realisasi nilai-nilai penting bagi mahasiswa karena mahasiswa tidak hanya sekedar tahu akan nilai, tetapi berusaha menerapkannya dalam aktivitas sehari-hari sebagai pelajar di Universitas  Paramadina. Nilai-nilai diharapkan dapat membentuk kepribadian diri yang unggul dan nantinya bisa berkiprah dalam masyarakat secara optimal. Selain itu, evaluasi sosialisasi dan realisasi penting  dilakukan karena menyangkut sejumlah hal.

Di tengah krisis ekonomi global yang belum menunjukkan tanda-tanda perbaikan, perekonomian Indonesia tetap tumbuh meyakinkan dalam beberapa tahun terakhir.

Prestasi ini tak lepas dari peran industri perbankan sebagai sumber pendanaan utama aktivitas perekonomian. LIma tahun terakhir kredit perbankan naik rata-rata 23 persen per tahun. Pada saat bersamaan nilai aset, rasio kredit terhadap dana pihak ketiga (LDR), kredit bermasalah (NPL), dan rasio kecukupan modal (CAR) juga menunjukkan tren menggembirakan. Hal ini menggambarkan kesiapan perbankan untuk terus mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi pada tahun mendatang.

Anticorruption campaign in a neo-patrimonial democracy

Democracy is expected to be an effective instrument for fighting corruption because it supports citizens to demand accountability and transparency from governments.

Democracy also encourages accountability, independent judiciaries, political checking and balancing, freedom of the press and law  enforcement. The higher the level of democracy, the more effective  are democratic institutions in deterring corruption (Sandholtz and Kotzle, 2000; Blake, 2006).

But democracy does not guarantee the effective elimination of corruption. In the current Indonesian democracy, many democratic leaders represented by the elites of political parties are indeed
unfavorable to effective anticorruption.

Pembatasan Subsidi BBM Kredibilitas Pemerintah

Rasa-rasanya, hampir semua jawaban mengarah pada keseimpulan betapa murahnya harga bensin di Indonesia.

Kesimpulan tersebut tidaklah salah. Studi oleh GIZ pada 2010 menunjukkan bahwa dari 170 negara yang disurvei, hanya ada 22 negara yang menerapkan kebijakan subsidi BBM.

Bahkan, mayoritas negara memberikan pajak atas bensin yang diperuntukkan bagi pembangunan dan pemeliharaan infrastruktur jalan raya. Dengan asumsi harga bensin Rp. 4.500 per liter, hanya ada 14 negara di dunia dengan harga bensin lebih murah daripada harga bensin di Indonesia.

The US Turning Point and Its Impact Indonesia

The United States has turned a new page in 2012 with a strategic policy that could shape a different US posture. Based on the policy, the US will be less prone to wars after officially pulling out of Iraq. This assumption is supported by President Barack Obama’s  announcement of a nearly US$500 billion cut to the 2013 defense budget.

The final decision to call an end to the Iraq war has raised the  question about whether the troop withdrawal created instability in Iraq. Soon after the withdrawal, 16 bombings occurred across the country and the bomb attacks escalated. While it is true that the task of maintaining security and stability is now solely in the hands of the Iraqi government, many argue that the US has won militarily but not achieved stability in Iraq.

A day devoted to saving the rich waters of archipelago

The international community will mark June 8 as World Oceans Day,  a day to raise awareness of the significance of oceans for lives of  humankind, particularly for sustainable development. This year, the  event also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention  on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Global awareness has resulted in numerous global talks and  declarations, such as demonstrated by the first World Ocean  Conference in Manado, Indonesia, in May 2009. The awareness of  marine protection has mainly focused on conservation and  environmental security of the oceans.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) with its partners, for  instance, will celebrate the first Coral Triangle Day on June 9, one day after the World Oceans Day.

Through the campaign, WWF hopes to generate awareness to  conserve the marine life of the Coral Triangle, which encompasses  Malaysia, Indonesia, the Phillipines, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea  and the Solomon Islands. A celebrity chef, Bobby Chinn, will also  participate in the celebration by preparing “responsibly-caught  seafood” dishes in some restaurants in Bali.

Antara BBM dan BLT ?

”Harus punya hatilah, punya empati, jangan segala hal dipolitikkan. Tidak baik. Rakyat akan terhina kalau dilihat kaca mata politik,rakyat harus dibantu. Kita jangan menina-bobokan mereka  lagi yang tidak tepat menerima subsidi,” ujar Presiden Susilo  Bambang Yudhoyono dalam pembekalan petinggi Partai Demokrat di Cikeas pada 18 Maret 2012.

Itulah respons beliau menanggapi kritik atas kebijakan Bantuan  Langsung Tunai (BLT) yang dikucurkan untuk mengimbangi dampak  kenaikan harga bahan bakar minyak (BBM) bersubsidi. Berulangkalisaya renungkan pernyataan Presiden SBY tadi dan dua  hal muncul.

Pertama, suka tidak suka, setiap tahun pikiran kita masih dibebani  dengan dilema antara menaikkan atau tidak harga BBM bersubsidi.  Sesudah itu, pemerintah meminta kita berpikir tentang apakah insentif atas kenaikan harga bensin premium tadi terhitung sebanding  dengan nilai subsidi yang dicabut. Mengapa rakyat  diminta berhitung dan merasa bersalah jika tidak berkorban dengan bersedia membayar lebih ongkos transpor sehari-harinya?
